6 Wedding Expenses To Add To Your ‘Yes’ List
Just as every couple is unique, so is every celebration. Whether you’re working with a tight wedding budget or you’re blessed with Simone Biles’ pro flexibility in the coin department, what’s meaningful to you might not mean squat to others. See, you might be willing to splurge on a fabulous outfit, or maybe it’s a no-frills affair with jeans and sneakers (it’s your day, so do it your way, yeah?!) But, with all the wedding planning falling to you, it’s easy to forget (and maybe even regret) a detail or two. So, what’s worth splurging on, and where can you cut back? Without further ado, here are 6 wedding expenses worth adding to your wedding day checklist.
1. Disposable cameras for your guests
Who says wedding photos need to be polished and picture-perfect? We love nothing more than couples who choose to do things a little differently – and one of our favourite wedding photo ideas to date is… to not have a photographer at all! Instead, we love opting for disposable cameras. Scattered across tables and around your venue, you're bound to capture some of the best laughs, spills and surprise dance-offs you’ll actually want to remember. Plus, there’s a certain magic in the messy, candid chaos that no pro can replicate. So skip the formalities, embrace the imperfections, and allow your wedding album to take on a life of its own. In our opinion? Disposable cameras are a true wedding essential.
2. Hiring a creative videographer
Incoming! A controversial opinion from us: While a talented wedding videographer is definitely on our wedding day checklist, it’s one of those things you’re either really into, or, well, not. If you’re considering hiring a videographer because you’d love professional footage of your big day, we say go for it, and we also say: Why not try something new and a little different while you’re at it? If you’re not the biggest fan of cookie-cutter wedding highlight reels (no shade if you are!), we always love the idea of hiring cinematographers or alternative filmmakers to transform your wedding day narrative into something super unique. It’s a pretty cool way to document your special day, we think.
3. A wedding planner or day-of coordinator
Some think they can do it all; others make their lives easier by hiring a wedding planner (or a day-of coordinator!) The good news is that many wedding venues include a day-of coordinator as part of your package, so it’s always worth asking before signing the contract or hiring someone separately. A day-of coordinator is there to ensure everything runs smoothly and stays on schedule, so you can relax and enjoy the day without worrying about the finer details! On the other hand, a wedding planner helps with the entire planning process, from start to finish.
4. A DJ or band that you love
Ah, the classic entertainment conundrum. To hire the DJ, the band or, erm, the string quartet?! Whether you’re a jazz fan, a pop princess or a rock veteran, you and your boo will need to find a happy balance and choose entertainment that you’re both excited about – and that your guests will enjoy boogieing too, as well. It’s all about creating an atmosphere that feels right for your big day. Whatever you end up choosing, entertainment is definitely an area where it’s worth allocating some extra funds in your wedding budget.
5. The most fabulous outfits
We’d love to say you only get married once, but life sometimes has other plans. So, if you do the math (and you’re into this whole marriage thing) you’ll only get married once – or a handful of times. So, why not look your absolute best?! Here’s our hot take: Set aside extra funds for the outfit you really want, and don’t settle! Also, if you’re covering the costs for your bridal party’s outfits, be sure to budget for them as well. After all, the only thing better than looking fabulous is feeling fabulous – and when you feel amazing, it’ll shine through.
6. All the flowers (and a little self awareness)
Let’s be real—florals can absolutely blow out your budget faster than you can say “peony centerpiece.” But whether you’re going big with blooms or keeping it simple, flowers add undeniable beauty, romance, and vibrancy to any wedding. For the eco-conscious or budget-savvy, teaming up with a florist friend, raiding a stunning backyard garden, or going full DIY with a friends-and-family floral crew is always an option (and makes for some pretty special memories). But if you want to save yourself from battling rose thorns and last-minute stress, investing in a trusted florist who gets your vibe can transform your space into something unforgettable. Think of it as one of those splurges that feels just a little extra—but totally worth it.
Let’s wrap things up, shall we?
Of course, we’re a bit biased. Having been part of countless weddings – both as guests and as professionals in the industry – we’ve learned firsthand what guests truly love. So, do you take these suggestions to be your lawfully wedded partner in planning? (This is the part where you say “I do!”).
